The Herald-Press (01/13/2011, Carrie L. Bragg) -- Humane Society to host annual dinner banquet, Tim Hendrickson to provide 'wild' entertainment for event. The Huntington County Humane Society invites the community to join them in celebrating a successful 2010 during the annual dinner banquet and silent auction on Thursday, January 20.

Proceeds from the banquet will go to support the shelter and the society's fund for a new building.

Humane Society President Pat Merckx said the dinner will be a bit different this year due to the building project.

"We'll give an update on the new building project and everything that has gone on for the year," she said. "The most important thing is that this is when we vote in all the incoming members of the society. There will be a few coming in."

Merckx said guests are sure to enjoy the entertainment. Tim Hendrickson of Secret Safari will bring along some of his favorite wild animal friends.

"Tim is going to provide a great program," she said. "It will be good food, good people and good friends."

Hendrickson said he is happy to provide the entertainment in support of the shelter.

"This is a chance for me to talk to people and educate them on what people can do with animals and how they can be treated properly," he said.

Dinner will be prepared by Jim Koon and served at 6:30 p.m. The meal will include the guest's choice of either pulled pork or Swiss steak served with a potato, a vegetable, a dinner roll, a drink and a dessert. A silent auction will take place with items provided by society members. After the dinner, society members will present the Thurman Poe Humanitarian of the Year Award to someone who has been beneficial to the shelter. Gene Snowden, former state senator, will emcee the event.

Doors for the event, to take place at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 1000 Flaxmill Road, will open at 6 p.m. The cost for adults is $15 and $10 for children 12 and under. To make a reservation, call the Huntington County Humane Society at 260-356-0355.
